Step 1 — Take down gently
Unravel braids from the ends up, without ripping. Snip only your rubber bands, never blind-cutting near the added hair. Keep the strands aligned as you go — a loose pile tangles, a smooth section doesn't.
Step 2 — Detangle before water touches it
Finger-detangle first, then wide-tooth comb, ends to roots. Dry detangling before washing is the single step that saves the most hair.
Step 3 — Wash like it's yours
- Lukewarm water, gentle shampoo, squeeze — don't scrub.
- Condition generously; this is where softness comes back.
- Rinse, squeeze out water in a towel, never wring.
Step 4 — Dry and store
Air-dry flat or hung, fully — bagging damp hair is how mildew happens. Once dry, braid it loosely or band the sections, and store in a satin bag or the drawer, away from sun.
