Crochet Hair: The Complete Guide to Pre-Looped Installs

Crochet is the third format we sell, and it is the one people understand least. It is not braiding hair and it is not a sew-in bundle — it is its own thing, and for a lot of people it is the practical choice.

What crochet hair actually is

The hair comes pre-looped: each piece is already folded and ready to be pulled through a cornrow with a crochet hook. No braiding the hair into your own, no sewing onto a track. Your braider cornrows your hair, then works the loops in.

The practical consequence is time. A full crochet install is dramatically faster than knotless braids, because the braiding work is in the cornrow base rather than in every individual braid.

The seven textures

Every texture we carry in bulk also exists in crochet:

  • Deep Wave — our best-selling pattern, an even S-wave
  • Body Wave — the loosest, closer to a soft bend
  • Italian Curl — a rounder, springier curl
  • Water Curl — between wavy and curly
  • Wet & Wavy — the wave tightens when wet
  • Burmese Curly — the softest curl pattern
  • Deep Curly — the tightest of the set

Lengths and prices

Length Price
14" $105
16" $115
18" $125
20" $135
22" $145

Every texture uses the same grid. Ten dollars per two inches, which makes the length decision unusually easy to reason about.

Color

Natural black across all seven textures. Two of them also carry color at 18 inches, at $125 — the same price as natural black:

  • Deep Wave crochet — shades 4, 8, 27, 30, 350, 613 and 99J
  • Body Wave crochet — shades 4, 8, 27, 30 and 613

If those numbers mean nothing to you, we explained the whole system in Hair Color Numbers Explained.

Who crochet suits

Three situations where it is clearly the right call.

You want a protective style without a nine-hour appointment. This is the main reason people choose it.

You want volume without weight at the root. Because the hair attaches to a cornrow rather than to individual sections of your own hair, the tension is distributed differently.

You are new to extensions. Crochet is the easiest format to take down, which makes it a lower-commitment way to try a texture before you book a longer install.

And when it is not

If what you want is the boho knotless look — braids with curly ends showing through — crochet will not give you that. That is a bulk install. See Braiding Hair Textures Compared to pick the pattern, then buy bulk.

Free US shipping starts at $200, which most crochet orders of two pieces or more will clear.
